<p><strong>Parents: </strong>We will be having a parent meeting on the 15th at my house 7050 Stevensville/Baroda Rd at 7:00PM and a reminder note will also be coming  home with each player with directions and time.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Sure, it&#8217;s not the most glamorous, but plain water is all anyone really needs to keep hydrated, says John Brady, a certified athletic trainer, especially if you&#8217;re eating a well balanced diet.</p>
<p>Sport drinks like Gatorade or PowerAde can be appealing if you don&#8217;t like the taste or (lack thereof) water, as long as the drink doesn&#8217;t contain too many carbohydrates. <strong>A sport drink should have about 6% carbohydrates. </strong> If your sport drink is higher you should dilute with water.  <strong>Any more than that can irritate the stomach and doesn&#8217;t allow gastric emptying. The body has to put more energy into digesting carbohydrates rather than just getting it into the system.</strong> If using a combination of water and sport drinks, Brady recommends drinking water during practice or games and sport drinks after.</p>
<p><strong>Don&#8217;t wait for thirst</strong></p>
<p>Drink 16-20 ounces a few hours before you head to practice or games and another 8-12 ounces right before the event. During practice or competition, it&#8217;s best to drink something every 15-20 minutes. After the workout, drink up to the point that your urine is clear or lemonade in color, or if you lost weight during the workout, drink about 20 ounces for each pound lost.</p>
<p><strong>What to avoid </strong></p>
<p>Carbonated drinks like pop and juices that contain a lot of sugar. they are too concentrated and slow down the hydration process.  Also drinks with stimulates like caffeine and lots of sugar.</p>
<p><strong>You can get your sport drinks to 6% carbs by adding water. Example: a drink with 12%, pour half in another container and add water to both. The taste is virtually the same.</strong></p>
